(c) Diagram 1.2 shows the transport of glucose from proximal convoluted tubule into the blood capillary in the kidney. Explain what will happen to the transport of glucose if the structure X is absent.

    1.a) i) Diffusion

    ii) The net movement of molecules during diffusion is from a higher concentration (more potassium permanganate, less molecules of water) to a lower concentration (less potassium permanganate, more molecules of water), down the concentration gradient.

    iii) The correct ones are (gaseous exchange in alveolus, a drop of blue ink is added into a glass of water causing the water turns blue)

    > mineral ions would be taken up via active transport. 

     

    b) i) fish → adding salt

    strawberries adding sugar

    ii) Preserving food is important as it prevents food decay and food wastage. Furthermore, food can be kept and stored for longer periods of time. Food can also be transported over long distances as it doesn’t spoil quickly.

     

    c) Structure X is mitochondrion. The transport of glucose requires ATP without structure X to produce ATP, the transport of glucose cannot occur.
