    1. a)

    R: Chromosome

    c) i) Q is a vacuole. Since distilled water is hypotonic to the plant cell, water will enter the vacuole through the process of osmosis. The vacuole will expand, swell and increase in size. The plant cell becomes turgid as the vacuole presses against the plasma membrane and cell wall. 

    ii) The cell does not burst because it has a rigid cell wall made up of a tough fibrous layer of cellulose. Thus the cell wall is able to withstand the increasing pressure created within the cell.

     

    d)

    i) Meristematic tissue: made up of young cells which are actively dividing.

    ii) Collenchyma tissue: have cell walls which are thickened by cellulose and pectin causing the cell wall to be strong yet flexible.

    Collenchyma tissue: made up of polygonal cells which have unevenly thickened cell walls.
